Island Round-Southern Norway June 7-23, 2026

After a smooth flight, we land in Oslo at noon. We pick up our rental car at the airport terminal and head to Ruth, Kurt's godchild. After enjoying some delicious waffles with coffee, we drive towards Horten, our first overnight stop.

Horten is a coastal town by the Oslofjord. The municipality includes the city of Horten and the villages Kirkebakken (Borre), Nykirke, Åsgårdstrand, and Skoppum. The city area includes the islands Bastøy, Løvøya, Mellomøya, and Østøya. The small island Vealøs, located slightly north of the district of Karljohansvern, with the fortress “Norske Løve” built between 1852 and 1859, is still used militarily by the Norwegian Navy. Bastøy is a prison island. Geologically, the city is situated in the Oslo Rift region.                                                      We end the day with a beautiful sunset before heading to bed.
