With a one-hour delay, we start our journey from Zurich to Alaska. After a long flight, we land in Anchorage at 11 pm. As planned, we will be greeted by the Hurtigruten crew and continue to the Hilton hotel, where we will spend our first night. After a delicious breakfast with a great view of Anchorage and the Alaskan mountain range, we continue by bus towards Seward. In the impressive landscape, we can already observe the first bald eagles and Dall sheep. We make a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Center. This rescue station, surrounded by mountains and glaciers in Portage Valley, is dedicated to the rescue of orphaned or injured animals in Alaska. Here we can see bears, bison, elk, caribou, deer, eagles, and muskox up close. It's incredibly fascinating to observe them up close. In Seward, the beautiful Hurtigruten ship MS Roald Amundsen is waiting for us. Seward is located on the Kenai Peninsula at the mouth of Resurrection Bay and below Mount Marathon. It is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, a huge mountainous region that is home to one of the largest ice fields in Alaska. Seward was founded in 1903 and is the only deep-water port connected to the interior of Alaska by air connections, a railway line, and a highway. It is named after William H. Seward, the Secretary of State who led the negotiations with Russia for the purchase of Alaska by the United States in 1867. We enjoy the departure from Seward on deck, where we observe bald eagles at the pier. After a delicious dinner, we go to our wonderful cabins.
