The next day we spent going to Chem Beach (30 minutes walk) A beautiful, secluded beach where we just stayed for a few hours. Then in the evening we wanted to cover a few more kilometers, which turned into more. We arrived extremely late at Orere Point, where we couldn't find a campsite without closed barriers blocking our way. The other parking options we passed were unfortunately only for self-contained vehicles - Regina was not.
After driving back several kilometers and the fuel gauge suspiciously close to empty, we found a parking lot that we didn't check when we drove up because after about 5 previous self-contained parking lots, we assumed this one was the same - lesson learned)
We fell into bed completely exhausted and were relieved to finally be able to sleep and no longer have to drive around with our bed without being able to use it. Rebecca made the comparison: It's like teasing Lara (our dog) with a treat but never giving it to her :)
