Are you hungry?

Pubblicato: 01.04.2018

The most frequently asked question in the last two days. We certainly won't starve here, but we will definitely gain weight in the next 4 weeks.

Day 1 starts with sleeping in quite long, because the alcohol from the previous day and the lack of sleep are noticeable.

We quickly realize that we need to set an alarm clock for the next few days to get into a routine.

For 'breakfast' we naturally have Fried Rice and sausages. Quickly take a shower (by the way, with cold water) and we have to drop something off somewhere, not us but we go along.

6 people in a small car designed for 5? No problem! And apparently the seat belts are just decoration. We arrive at 'eggs for breakfast', we're not hungry yet, so we order 4 orange juice and get milk. Five servings of fresh milk with ice cubes, well, no problem for us, but Cedee is lactose intolerant and we wanted to go further. So no milk for Cedee.

Afterwards, we meet up with Coleen, Debbie's cousin, and her mother at the shopping center. Marc has to pack the camera, because taking photos is not allowed here. In addition, there are policemen at the doors who inspect the bags.

Debbie needs to use the toilet, wait, where is the toilet paper? Okay, good thing I have my own tissues. When leaving, I discover the vending machine with toilet paper, wet wipes, and pads for 1PHP (0.01€).

Are you hungry? There's food again. JOLIBEE yeah.

A fast food chain in the Philippines that almost nobody knows about in our home country. They do have burgers, etc. but people here love Fried Chicken. So Marc has landed in the right place.

Satisfied (once again), we walk home, which takes about 10-15 minutes. Actually, hardly anyone here walks such 'long' distances, so Coleen finds it exhausting right away. But her argument that she takes 2 steps when Marc takes one and therefore walks twice as far is somehow true.

When we arrive home, we have 'Sinigang', a sour soup (we really spend the whole day eating, not just feeling like it) and then a green mango (a sour unripe mango) with Bagoong (a shrimp paste). Marc tries everything and he likes the taste. Everyone is surprised about the Bagoong because there are enough locals who don't like it.

Allan's sister-in-law (yes, many people come and go here) brings Biko over. A sweet sticky rice cake with caramelized coconut. Marc has found his favorite food.

Oh yeah, Siopao (filled steamed buns) is also available and we're about to burst.

You can probably guess what the second day looks like in terms of food.

But we went on a trip, more about that later.

Goodbye.
