3400 meters of altitude

Pubblicato: 17.07.2023

Despite the roaring stream, we were able to find restful sleep. Tomorrow, we'll prefer to close the tailgate. Thanks to croissants and delicious pastries right on site, we found the perfect fuel for biking. Our plan was to take it easy on the first day. That's why we treated ourselves to a day pass with 5 included gondolas and trains.

In the first step, the Rinerhorn lift comfortably took us 700 meters uphill directly at the campground. A comfortable gravel road starts, but then turns into a technically demanding maze of roots. In addition to the roots, there were also obstacles in the form of oncoming cyclists, electric and bio, to deal with. Hats off to all those who were coming towards us, the uphill must have been extremely demanding. With a grin on our faces, we went down over rocks and stones. Only Stefanie had some initial difficulties. Her last fall on the Gis had taken some sharpness away from her. After the beautiful trail, we eventually overcame a very boring asphalt road back to Davos. Just before the lift, we were greeted again by a great single trail. A mother with her young daughter was coming towards us, stopped, and the daughter wanted to dismount to the right, but unfortunately there was only air under her foot and whoosh, she and her bike disappeared straight down. Luckily, she was caught by a soft bed of plants about 1 meter below the field of view in the steep terrain. Nothing serious happened. It was just a brief shock. Mini jumped down, helped the little one back up, slipped, shouldered the bike, and brought it back to the trail. With a short reminder that even on very, very easy sections, something can happen, we continued.

The next gondola (Jakobshornbahn) took us more than 1000 meters up to a technical training trail where Stefanie found her top form again. Mini could hardly keep up. We surfed down along highly artificial banking curves back to the valley to the next gondola (Parsennbahn).

Once again, we went up over 1000 meters, along with Jewish Orthodox riders, of which there are plenty in Davos, and strongly scented 100 other bikers. Once we reached the top, everyone quickly disappeared, and we decided to take a beautiful ride along the mountain slopes back to the campground. There wasn't much to see of the other bikers on the trail, probably because their heavily downhill-oriented bikes were not suitable for the uphill, downhill, and especially technically demanding course that we took. Past beautiful peaks, with a short detour to a lake, we curved back into the valley with fingers already hurting from the brakes. When we arrived at the campground, we made ourselves some eggplant curry with rice and enjoyed the evening. After 3000 meters of elevation gain with the gondolas, we decided not to plan the next tours with them. They are nice for getting up, but they don't feel right for us.
