Plitvice Lakes

You can't really miss the Plitvice Lakes during a longer visit to Croatia. This is Croatia's most famous national park, where the Winnetou movies were filmed and these lakes are featured in all Croatia promotional images.

So we also visited them, right in the peak season. After total chaos in the parking lot, we probably would have turned back when we saw the huge line in front of the ticket office. But we were clever and bought the tickets online in advance, so we could bypass all the poor waiting people and go straight into the park. Here, we prefer to let the pictures speak instead of words. These lakes, connected in a stair-like manner, the wonderfully clear water and the beautiful waterfalls (although with relatively little water in the summer) are really nice to explore. You can cover part of the recommended hike by electric boat, which is also a highlight for the children.

We liked it. But the crowd was borderline for us, and of course, we are already spoiled in Switzerland with beautiful lakes and waterfalls.
