Eidfjord - Flåm Railway, Bergen Railway and Waterfalls

EID05 - Flåm Railway, Bergen Railway and Waterfalls

Today we traveled from Eidfjord along Road 7, across the 1380 meter-long Hardanger Bridge. Before this bridge was built, locals had to use the ferry connection between Brimnes and Bruravik. The Hardangerfjord is a fjord that stretches about 170 kilometers and is up to 893 meters deep, making it one of the longest and deepest fjords along the Norwegian coast.

We made a short stop here so that guests could see the bridge. We sailed through it in the early morning on a ship. Those who saw it noticed that the bridge, with its height of 55m, is not really that high. So even on the ship, one must be careful to leave on time so that the water level doesn't rise too high and you can still pass under the bridge.

Next stop: Skjervsfossen Waterfall. From here, we were able to walk up to the waterfall on foot. The waterfall has an approximate height of 150 meters. It's hard to believe, but it is really loud.

The journey continues with the Bergen Railway from Voss to Myrdal.

From Voss, we took the Bergen Railway for about 45 minutes towards Myrdal, where the Flåm Railway was waiting for us. The 41-kilometer stretch from Voss to Myrdal is a part of the total 516-kilometer route from Bergen to Oslo.

From Myrdal (at over 800 meters altitude), we were then able to take the Flåm Railway to Flåm (at 2 meters altitude). Thus, this railway is one of the steepest railways in the world.

After a short travel time, we stopped at the Kjosfossen Waterfall and stayed there for a moment to admire the waterfall and listen to a young lady in a red dress. She sang and moved to the music.

Upon arriving in Flåm, we boarded our bus, which was already waiting for us, and headed to our rest stop, the Viking Village in Gudvangen.

Something I found funny and had to mention. In Norway, you can pay for the restroom with a credit card. :-)

This full day trip comes to an end with many impressions.
