Kia Ora, New Zealand! 🇳🇿
Finally being able to set foot on your land - I've been dreaming of that for a long time.
After about 24 hours of fairly sleepless flight time, a small 5-minute sprint through the 27-degree hot airport in Singapore (only to find out that the flight doesn't leave for another hour..) and a pretty thorough search at the Auckland airport, the time has finally come.
Letting the loved ones at home know that you haven't crashed and off you go.
Backpack on the back and into the 182-day backpacking adventure!
Well, at least almost..
It's just after midnight. Quite cold - spring has just begun. And Thimo and I honestly have no idea where to go this night. We had only booked our hostel for the following day from 2 pm. So, being optimistic and naive as we were, we took the next Sky-Bus to the city of Auckland and took over the next best hostel for one night.
Ha ha, ha. 😐
At 1 o'clock in the morning, hardly any hostel was open to inquire or hopelessly fully booked. Moreover, our reception in Auckland, more precisely the somewhat more famous Queens Street, was characterized by strange night creatures and homeless faces that immediately noticed us. Especially since we were incredibly tired and could hardly stand on our feet.
Stumbling into the next best hostel, we were told that there were no free rooms left, but we could store our luggage and spend the night on the sofas in the lounge - for free! Proper guy! ☝🏼️
What we didn't know at that time was that the sofas were in the middle of a huge room, completely lit up including music and a big TV running all the time. Okay. Can be done when you're almost falling asleep standing. So, we threw ourselves down and used a sweater as a blanket.
Good night 😴
