As we had been a bit sloppy with time before, we now wanted to quickly go to Seattle, in the Evergreen State of Washington. However, the journey there was anything but green. It went on endless roads in the middle of desolate landscapes. Fields of wheat after fields of wheat... Then again desert, barren mountains, and occasionally a reservoir. From Wenatchee onwards, the scenery changed, wine and especially fruit were grown. Then we went through alpine landscapes and crossed a place called Leavenworth. Out of nowhere, a place that could hardly be more Bavarian appeared right in front of our eyes. We were speechless! We hadn't expected that. Interestingly, this place was really designed ONLY for tourist purposes. It was not due to German residents who might have brought this German culture here... No... apparently, the city treasury simply lacked money. Well, the Americans like to switch to Bavarian... And what can we say, this place seems to be one of the biggest attractions in Washington, so we were told.
Aberdeen, another small town in Washington, also attracts certain attention... Already at the entrance you are greeted with "Come as you are". So, Kurt Cobain comes from this unspectacular place... [Except for some of the older generation of our blog readers, everyone will know him ;-) ] The city he hated so much has erected a small monument to him here, at a place where he often retreated in his younger years and where many a song text was created.
