From Vegas we went to the Hoover Dam. The dam impounds the Colorado River and forms Lake Mead, from which Las Vegas gets its water, among others. The dam is gigantic, truly a breathtaking structure. Below the dam, an equally gigantic bridge spans the Colorado Valley. It's hard to describe everything, but it's definitely great architecture and engineering. The water level of Lake Mead is somewhat alarming, as the reservoir was last full in 1983. We've heard that Las Vegas consumes 300 gallons of water per person daily, which is more than 1000 liters. Waste and excess, which can be found everywhere, are surely the biggest problem in the USA.
