From Airlie Beach, we went on a 3-day sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands off the coast on the 'Mandrake'. On the first day, we sailed from the marina in our 14m long sailboat to Whitehaven Beach, where we stayed overnight on the boat in the bay. Early the next morning, we crossed over and were able to admire the impressive Whitehaven Beach. Unfortunately, we were interrupted by a storm with heavy rain, but it turned into bright sunshine after an hour.
At Whitehaven Beach, we could see stingrays in the water pools and whales at the horizon. After that, we returned to the boat, had lunch, and went snorkeling at the reef. There, you could observe thousands of fish.
After another night, we went snorkeling again, and this time, we were able to swim with a giant turtle. On the way back to Airlie Beach, we even saw a school of dolphins swimming next to our boat.
