San Francisco

Arriving in San Francisco early in the morning and since our room was not ready yet, we headed to the famous Cable Car Railway. And because it was still very early in the morning, we didn't have to wait too long. With this old streetcar, you can experience the city in all its glory with its hilly streets, Victorian-style houses, and of course, the view of the famous Lombard Street with its winding flower-lined steep road.

At Fisherman's Wharf, we enjoyed a great breakfast at Boudin, where the breads were transported by cable car from the open bakery to the sales counter. The kids were fascinated!!

After being strengthened, we walked along the harbor until we found Pier 39. There, about 100 sea lions were lounging around and gave their morning concert at full volume, a spectacular sight. On one of the floating docks, several young sea lions were playing and fighting, pushing each other into the water. Our girls followed the exciting scene and couldn't stop taking photos.

The next day, we hopped on one of the many bikes that you can rent here and cycled past the harbor and beach all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. There, we were greeted by a strong sea breeze and noisy 6-lane traffic, wow!!!!

At the other end, we had a thrilling 5-minute downhill ride to the delight of dad and the kids.

Back to Frisco, we took the 'Bike Ferry' across the bay, passing by small harbors and the infamous Alcatraz prison, also known as The Rock.

Since we had been away from home for so long and were starting to miss Italian cuisine more and more, we looked for an Italian restaurant in the Italian quarter of the city. In an alley, we found a small typical tavern and enjoyed the Italian atmosphere and, of course, the food, mmmmmhhhhh! A little bit of homesickness came up.

The next day, we explored China Town. There, we 'stumbled' upon a sushi bar because the food was brought to the bar on small boats by the sushi chef. Our kids had never seen anything like it, so we had to try it out. The sushi was delicious, and to our surprise, even our Kira loved it, despite usually being skeptical of unfamiliar food.
