After driving 1000 km on Monday, we arrived at a small but cozy campsite in the evening. As mentioned in the last post, the original plan was to stop near Bordeaux at night. However, we contacted Matze and Lisa in the meantime, who are planning a similar tour with their Golf Cabrio, so we drove about 200 km more than planned and ended up in the really small town of Dax, where we met them. Thankfully, they allowed us to share their spot, as it was big enough for two cars and a tent was.
Since we didn't arrive at the campsite until 8:00 PM and had no opportunity to go shopping, Matze and Lisa made us very happy with a great dinner of French baguette, cheese, and salami :)
Unlike us, the two of them are driving on toll-free roads during their trip and haven't paid a cent so far, while we have already paid around 100€ just in France. Not to mention, the cheapest liter of diesel we fueled up yesterday was at 1.57€. From today on, we will also look for alternative routes and cheaper gas stations, but yesterday we just wanted to make good progress.
After having the word "Bordeaux" in our heads all day long, it had to be part of the evening as well, so after a bottle of delicious wine, we had the most restful night so far in our camper van. We woke up well-rested after about 8 hours of sleep at 8:15 AM and treated ourselves to the first shower in 48 hours.
Then we had a cozy breakfast with muesli and coffee before we resumed our journey. Matze and Lisa will stay two more nights at the campsite, so we won't see each other until Friday in Sintra.
Now that we have come this far, we can continue our journey in a relaxed manner and finally enjoy our vacation :) today we're heading to Spain - let's see where it takes us.
