Good day! Yesterday we went on the Free Walking Tour in Medellin and we were not disappointed. During the 4-hour tour, we not only got to know many places/sights, but also learned a lot about the history and culture of this truly unique city. Once the 'most dangerous city in the world', whose streets were empty and the public squares occupied by drug trafficking, homeless people, and prostitutes, is now called the 'City of Eternal Spring'. There are people everywhere, sellers, music,... Of course, drug trafficking, homelessness, and prostitution can still be seen and certain areas are dangerous, but no more dangerous than most major cities in the USA. The people here are simply real fighters and try to leave behind the terrible history and make the best out of the future. Aaaaand... they are extremely happy with tourists, waving at us, wanting to say Hello, asking us where we come from... Tourism means safety - not only for us but also for the people here.
In the evening, we had to process all the experiences and went to a bar. Cony stayed at the hostel as she goes to Spanish school in the morning. After a few rounds of beer, Jay had the brilliant idea of going to a Colombian karaoke bar (Jay is the fourth member of the group of English/Dutch people, whom we just met now). As they say, so it shall be done... shortly afterwards we find ourselves in the midst of Colombians who are humming Spanish songs that we may not even know. Buuuut there were also some who sang English songs and we thought - Why not?! Today, my voice is not very happy about the fact that yesterday I wanted to give my own interpretation of Robbie Williams and Elton John.. but oh well. The will counts.
