Did you shoot something today?

The campsite owner left us the saving wooden board for the bed, so we were spared a visit to a workshop. Even though the camper landlord Wilderness reacted super flexibly and customer-friendly, it was time we didn't want to lose like that.

The plan for an early departure gave way to a leisurely breakfast. Also not a problem, it's vacation. The route should lead to Lake Tekapo today. However, in between, a detour to nowhere or whatever this place is called, Erewhon. Read backwards and you have the origin. The road is lined with a 22-kilometer long gravel track. The camper can handle it and we made it through.

This region is rather known for the place 'Edoras'. The little hill with the right name 'Mt. Sunday' was something big in Lord of the Rings. I have no idea about that, but the surroundings are an absolute feast for the eyes.

Edo... what?
Edo... what?

The short hike from the parking lot to the hill takes only 40 minutes. The view that opens up is gigantic.

Edoras aside, the eye wanders for kilometers over the volcanic landscape. Full of grazing livestock.

After the hike, we went to Lake Tekapo. We made a spontaneous stop at the Valley Brewery in Geraldine. There was something about coffee and 'we are open'. Somehow we felt like having a coffee and a piece of carrot cake. When we got out of the car, we noticed a group of about 15 adults walking around in camouflage clothing. We thought of the army. As we walked by their truck, something motionless looked at us from the pickup bed.

Our welcome in the café was extremely warm and accompanied by the question; 'Did you shoot something today?'

I had no choice but to buy beer there and ask the really friendly owner about their hunting area. There was also a delicious coffee.

But then off to Lake Tekapo. Which shines beautiful turquoise in the sunlight. Tomorrow there will be another hike here.
