After spending the night in a VERY simple guesthouse in an old, creaking half-timbered house, today we first went to the Fulda, mostly downhill rather than uphill, past Kassel and on to Hann. Münden. A stage that we already knew from a few years ago (Fulda/Weser from Fulda). But always nice to ride!
At the last moment, we changed the route of the tour, as it is actually longer and has more altitude meters if you stay on the Weser. I must have researched that wrong... Anyway, we then went from Hann. Münden directly over to Göttingen, which means a mountain stage.
In Hann. Münden, we once again visited the Weserstein. Here, in 2016, we started our first canoe tour with a foldable boat and as a pair. Unfortunately, the Italian restaurant's terrace was still closed, so we ate our noodles 'to go' on an idyllic park bench in order to refuel as much energy as possible for the mountain stage. Meanwhile, a thunderstorm was approaching, so we waited in a dry corner before continuing in rain gear. Fortunately, the rain soon subsided and stopped.
For quite a while, the paths were uphill but moderate, so we could ride reasonably well. Parts of the route also run through beautiful forests and meadows. But overall, it was a very demanding mountain route - no, we are not super fit.
Finally, we arrived in Göttingen, and before that, we were rewarded with beautiful, long, fortunately paved descents. At the last minute, we managed to get a rapid COVID test in the old town, which was open until 7 p.m.! Afterwards, it started raining again, and we decided to spend our first (bike-free) day here tomorrow.
