Hey, it's great here!

Pubblicato: 22.10.2016

What can I say - I love it here! It's just soooo different and therefore so fascinating. Of course, it wouldn't be for me in the long run, it's a bit messy, but I'm already pretty sure that I will come back to Pulau Penang (Pulau = Island) and especially to Georgetown! There is so much to discover - food in all colors and shapes, street art, heritage houses (parts of the city are a World Heritage Site), various cultures and religions in close proximity, clan jetties, temples, rainforest, etc. My time here is simply not enough!

Even on the second day here, I tried various culinary things again. For breakfast, I only knew that there should be a special toast in the recommended shop (can you even call it a covered outdoor area?). So I went there (again sprinting along the roadside several times), there was no menu and the staff only spoke broken English. Well :) I really think so often during the day here: That is gonna be fun! :D So I looked at what the others had, but couldn't make sense of it. So I just ordered again and with my hesitant 'sweet toast', I got a nod. Then came 'you want an egg-la?', which I declined. I had no idea in what form the egg would have come, so I left it for now. On my plate, I had:

The toast tasted very good, so I immediately ordered a second one, so you can see 'kaya' better, which means coconut jam:

It was really delicious! The people at the other tables all had a cup with something white-yellowish and dipped their toast in it, that's why it is cut like this! I had it explained to me by the table next to me. That was a half-boiled egg, so now I could understand the question about the egg-lah :D I didn't know that it was coconut jam either, but afterwards I was wiser and it also tasted good! It was funny that I ordered a water with the kopi and he asked 'hot?'. All the other tables had iced kopis, so I said yes, hot please, I wanted a warm coffee. In the end, he meant the water and I had a warm coffee and a warm water :D

Anyway, it was already a good start to the day and it was just super hot. 32 degrees and sunshine! I only put on my sandals outside and I could take a shower right away. Well, but by now I have even gotten used to the humidity a bit.

Yesterday I went on a street art hunt, you've already seen a few things in the other article. I dedicate another report to it, so at this point just a note: there is an insane amount of it and cool interactive things like

New things are constantly being added, you could spend days just searching for all of them!

On the way, I really needed a break from the pounding sun and went to the Camera Museum. As soon as you walk in, the air conditioning is on everywhere, so I was pretty sure of cooling down. It was really nice there too, with a darkroom, history and a bit of experimentation

Afterwards, I continued walking through the city, hunted for murals, discovered interesting buildings, and even felt a bit at home (you'll find out in the upcoming article through the pictures). On top of that, I went to the longest café, it's located in one of those typical houses and was a whopping 100m long. Unfortunately, the picture only shows the distance to the intermediate door, of which there were, I think, 2.

The rest of the day will be shown in separate pictures :)
