Day 3 on Rügen (Wednesday 06.10.2021)
Today is the funeral of my friend Brigitte E. I am with her in my thoughts. Goodbyes are always so hard.
But today we went to Putbus. On the way, I stopped at an abandoned place. An old agricultural cooperative building, which was more like a ruin, didn't offer much. It wasn't really worth it. Then we continued to Putbus and the Circle awaited us with its white houses, in front of which some rose bushes were still blooming. During the walk around the square, we also saw two white grand buildings that were being renovated from the inside to create exclusive apartments. Always beautiful, this old Putbus.
Then we visited the old palace park. Unfortunately, the palace itself was demolished during the GDR era for ideological and financial reasons. However, the park itself is very beautiful with the radiant Orangery building, an old church with coffins, the Marshal's stable, and the monkey house. Old trees and wide meadows create a relaxed atmosphere. Benches invited us to linger.
We stopped at the monkey house for a rest because there was a café where we sipped coffee and indulged in a hot waffle with cherries, ice cream, and cream. There was also an old doll museum here. The 80-year-old lady who owned this private collection didn't have a doll as a child and began her doll collection as an adult. It is impressive what she has put together, and she proudly tells her story at the cash register.
Then we walked back to the car through an avenue. In general, you can drive through wonderful old avenues here, but first, we took a little detour to the outskirts of the city. There we already discovered another new object. A house for traveling journeymen was empty, and Gabi had the spontaneous idea that we could reopen it. And I raised the question of how we would then find traveling journeymen, and we both laughed heartily.
Back in the apartment, I parked for the first time in reverse in our designated parking space next to the house, but this attempt was just as difficult as reversing out of the parking space because the space was probably calculated for a Trabant car, not an SUV. What a struggle!!!
An evening walk to the sea spoiled us with a beautiful evening atmosphere. The sea was blood-red and swans were searching for food. In the distance, a lighthouse was blinking, and on the way along the beach, the waves licked at our feet because walking on damp sand is easier than on dry sand. We walked to the cliffs of Göhren, where large rocks invite you to linger and birds have their nests on the sandy slope. I have also been here with Jürgen, simply a wonderful part of the world, but pieces of the sand wall keep breaking off.
Then we returned with the beautiful evening atmosphere and got into the car to Baabe because there, a cabaret was waiting for us and we could laugh a lot because the two cabaret artists presented various topics in a very diverse and good way. It was definitely worth it, and we drove home satisfied.
