When angels travel, the sky laughs. Unfortunately, we brought the bad weather from Wellington to Christchurch. Although the city is known for its many hours of sunshine, the Australian cyclone 'Debbie' brought heavy rain and wind. 🌪💦
In weather where you wouldn't even let the dog out, we put rain covers on our backpacks and explored the city 🙈. Completely wet and freezing cold after a long walk in the city, there is nothing better than the Antarctic Museum with penguin feeding, snowstorm, 4D cinema and a ride on the Hägglund. 🐧❄️
When the sun finally came out on Friday at 17 degrees, we were the happiest people. With sunglasses and full of energy, we headed to the Christchurch Gondola, which offered us a brilliant view of the city, the Canterbury Plains, the Southern Alps, and down to Lyttelton and its harbor. ☀️🗻🤗
Afterwards, we were able to admire a botanical garden in New Zealand in daylight and sunshine for the first time. 🌷🌼
Christchurch - the Quake City - is marked by the strong earthquake in 2011. Countless construction sites in the city, the collapsed Christ Church Cathedral, and the Container Mall Re:Start in the center are the most obvious signs of this natural disaster.
