Today, the journey is the destination. We drive along the Cabot Trail to Cheticamp under a bright blue sky. This scenic route is considered one of the most beautiful in North America. Along the way, we have a picnic and stop for short walks. The pictures speak for themselves.
In the evening, we look for moose. Locals give us the tip to drive a section of the road very slowly and keep our eyes open. And we are lucky: suddenly, there is actually a moose cow standing by the side of the road. We stop, she flees into the thicket, but returns after about 15 minutes and is not bothered by us anymore. It is getting late now. On the way back, the sun is sinking glowing red into the sea when a black bear crosses the road right in front of us and immediately disappears into the undergrowth.
In Cheticamp, we have booked a large, beautiful vacation apartment through Airbnb. The accommodation Au coin des visiteurs is located outside the national park but right on the Cabot Trail. This means we only have a short drive to our hiking tour the next day.
