After our bumblebee has finally had a proper wash, we continue along the beautiful Algarve and end up in Portimao. There we find a great free parking space almost directly by the sea. And as always in the Algarve, the beach is a dream and surrounded by huge red cliffs and great rocks lying in the water. High up on the rocks you can walk through the huge forest, which now in spring resembles a jungle. Hundreds of enchanted paths lead through it and time and again you end up on the edge of the cliff and have wonderful views of the open sea. Our friend Heggen comes by and we stay together for a few days in this beautiful place.
Then we land in the surfer's paradise of Sagres and have arrived at the south-western point of Europe. Sagres is a small village on the Atlantic with the most beautiful beaches anywhere. Lots of surfers can be seen in the water. The cliffs rise majestically into the sky and the view almost takes your breath away. We climb over the rocks, let the dogs romp on the beaches and enjoy this place to the fullest. We can park for free at the castle and for 3 euros we can go in and walk onto the huge rock plateau. The cliffs around us fall almost vertically into the water, everything is green and blooming and the karst landscape glows in all colors. Then we make a detour to the small nautical museum, climb around the castle walls a bit and then we're through. What a magnificent landscape!! The Algarve really is a dream landscape. The weather is wonderful with 24° and a cloudless sky. It could really be worse.
We drive to the lighthouse Faro do Cabo de Saou Vincente. This is the most south-westerly place in Portugal and a resourceful German entrepreneur had the brilliant idea of selling the last bratwurst before America. For 28 years, people have been queuing up here to get one. We are also happy to be able to eat a German bratwurst again and even get a certificate for making it this far 😂😆. The landscape in this barren area is amazing. Because of the heavy rain a few weeks ago, nature is literally exploding here and everywhere between the rocks there is greenery and flowers in all colours. It smells of flowers and below the 50-metre-high rock plateau the Atlantic is roaring loudly onto the rocks. What a magnificent place!
Then Petra and Anni come to visit from Germany. We stay at a campsite in Sagres with Nicole and Karin. The two visitors stay in a mobile home. It is so nice to see familiar faces again. We get to know a lot of people on our trip, but no travel acquaintance is as good as old friends. We women drive to Lagos together. Lagos is a wonderfully colorful town with a great old town, a harbor, river and sea. Many boat tours to the caves and dolphins start from here. We content ourselves with strolling, good food and a tuk-tuk ride through Lagos. I really enjoy this women's trip. Kilian looks after the dogs that day.
The next day we girls go swimming at the famous, beautiful Beliche beach. The steps lead steeply down to one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. Here you can wade through the water at low tide and find a cave between the steep and high rocks that you can walk into through two entrances. Once again I stand speechless in this fantastic cave. We swim in the 17° cold Atlantic and can't get enough of this incredibly beautiful beach.
A few days later we say goodbye to the others, check out and are ready to leave. But our Hummel isn't making a sound. Battery full... car dead. Eventually we get it running, but at the water disposal station at the campsite exit it stops again. The starter sounded funny when it started. We suspect it's broken. The ADAC has to come, nothing helps. While we are still waiting for help, slightly frustrated, Kilian tries the old traditional way. Hit it hard with the big hammer. And lo and behold! The truck starts and purrs like a kitten 😆😅. We then turn it on and off again to be on the safe side, but the problem is gone. Wipe off the beads of sweat, adjust the crown, cancel ADAC membership and continue on through beautiful Portugal.
Since pictures say more than a thousand words, this time there are many, many pictures of the incredible places on the beautiful Algarve. We are excited to see where the wind will take us... Portugal, we love you already 😎🤩
