Today's route:
Ceillac (1645 m) - Lac Mirroir (2214 m) - Lac Sainte-Anne (2415 m) - Col Girardin (2699 m) - La Barge (1875 m)
(Internet connection on Monday will only be available in the evening after the last pass crossing. However, it is often too cold outside to write for a long time...)
We will stay in Ceillac on Monday. We will buy croissants, have coffee at 8 am in the first open café, together with the Swiss couple whom we won't see again for the rest of the day. We will stay in the café, make phone calls to our family, and then start packing and leave almost too late, after 10:15 am. (It will be a long day.)
The first 400 vertical meters are very steep. Lis takes off, Ignaz follows behind, reversing the usual hiking order. The reflection of the mountains behind is missing at Lac Mirroir; it is too windy. It is just cold at Lac Sainte-Anne as the sun is missing. (We once planned to camp there.) The ascent to the highest pass we will cross this year is drawn out. The descent of about 800 vertical meters is at times very steep, very exposed, and requires absolute sure-footedness. We are glad to find a good camping spot at the river L‘Ubaye right at La Barge. This also allows us to do some body and laundry washing.
