Roadtrip Days 13-14 / Derby

Pubblicato: 28.09.2017

We have now settled in well at the campsite in Derby. During our free time, we explored the city, did laundry, and bought a park pass at the tourist center (for $92, we can now visit all the national parks in Western Australia for 12 months) and picked up our Gibb River Road Certificate.

The city of Derby is located in the Kimberley Region. It was founded in 1880 and leads to the Timor Sea via the Fitzroy River. Derby has just over 2000 inhabitants, the majority of whom are indigenous people, but they are very peaceful here. The port of Derby is 2km away from the city center, and the city is surrounded by a desert. It is just so hot here, over 40 degrees every day. At the port, we could see the brown water (the water is brown for 12 hours and clear for 12 hours), the colors change due to the high tides, and the muddy and sandy ground is constantly stirred up. Here you can see the five highest tides in the world (about 12 meters high).

Otherwise, we are quite bored and trying not to move or sweat too much. Hopefully, the spare part will arrive tomorrow so that we can continue driving.
