Last weekend we started our 'trial' road trip. We were invited by Patrick's work mate Dave to go fishing for the weekend. So we had the perfect opportunity to try out our car and camping gear. We named our car Maxi :))
In the morning we headed to Dave's house. He lives on a huge, remote property between Berry Springs and Litchfield National Parks. There we met Becky (partner) and Buddah, as well as 2 1/2 year old Aria (daughter of Dave and Becky). Together we went to Mendura (about 150 km from Darwin). The drive was the purest adventure for us - now we know the Australians are right. Our Maxi (Toyota 4Runner) can go anywhere! Whether it's a gravel road, through the forest, through a bushfire, on the beach, through mud and water - our Maxi is a beast :)
We set up our camp on the beach and enjoyed the breathtaking outback. Padi learned how to catch fish with a net. In the evening and early morning we went fishing - a pretty boring hobby... We enjoyed the campfire and driving on the beach more. The first night in the tent was freezing cold and very windy, luckily we had warm clothes with us. For food, we had sandwiches, rice with vegetables, granola bars, and apples.
On the way back home, we made some stops at beautiful places. We would have never found them on our own. Luckily Dave, Becky, and Buddha grew up in the outback and know it well :)
It was a perfect first road trip! Now we're even more excited for the road trip around Australia, which we want to start in August or September.
