Working on a farm, eh?

Pubblicato: 21.06.2019

The bus ride has already revealed some pretty landscapes. Then I got off in Kamloops and had 2 hours to get something to eat and get a sim card. The sim card was relatively easy, albeit time-consuming. Eating at Wendy's was also easy, but shitty. Don't do it! I should have turned back when it smelled like old grease when opening the door. Whatever.

Then I met Jolene at the supermarket. Very nice person who brought her 3 boys Yukon (6), Gibson (4), and Hoss (2, how cool is that name? 😂😂). The 3 of them are so cute! We then shopped for the whole week and for Yukon's 7th birthday party on Friday. We spent the rest of the day in Kamloops with Gibson's t-ball training in the park. Family friends were there and immediately asked if they could borrow me for a week 😂. And they asked if I was aware that Jolene's farm is very remote. I didn't even know what that meant at first. When we drove to the farm that evening, I knew. We eventually drove from the asphalt road onto a dirt road and after another 45 minutes, we arrived. Very secluded, and it's perfect (or because of it).

As soon as we arrived at the farm, the 4 dogs came running, so cute! Then I met Dan, Jolene's husband, a bit of an oddball, who I still haven't warmed up to today. The pictures show the first impressions and my bed with a panoramic view ☺️

After the 4th day on the farm, there are 2 things that describe the whole situation perfectly. Firstly, I felt super integrated from the first minute. Almost too much, actually, because everything seems so natural, even the fact that I'm here. Nice! Secondly, my assistance is not planned at all and too much help is not wanted. There are sooooo many things I could help with, but so far it's all on demand and without a plan. I have to get used to that, I definitely don't want to appear stupid. I have to learn to suppress this compulsion that my previous jobs have taught me. I wanted to do something completely different, and now I have it ☺️.

On Tuesday, we branded 2 calves, and on Wednesday, we slaughtered 120 chickens. It didn't bother me that much 👍. I've already driven everything from Gator to truck to tractor. Awesome! And as soon as I can relax more about helping, I'll be able to enjoy it more ☺️

I'll be back, friends!
