An exceptional parking space

Pubblicato: 12.02.2024

Day 16: We didn't go back to Guardamar yesterday after our market marathon. We took a detour to El Chaparral and ended up straight in our past. Our parking space was less than 100 meters as the crow flies from the apartment where we spent our first holiday in Spain five years ago.

But we didn't know that when we made our way from the market to the address of the parking space. We were finally on the right street, standing in front of the house with the right number - but there was no parking space for mobile homes. There was a private house like any other in this area, surrounded by a high wall. So we finally started looking and discovered familiar houses and corners and finally found our former apartment. But what we didn't find was the parking space.

Luckily we found a phone number for the address. We called and a nice French guy answered who spoke English about as well - ok, just as bad - as I did. After some initial difficulties in our communication, it was clear that he had a place for us tonight. This eliminated our biggest concern. He confirmed the address that we had already driven to two or three times and wanted to wait for us there. And sure enough, this time there was a man standing in front of Avenida Boras 1 with a smile who happily waved at us. We were there.

We have never experienced what awaited us there in our careers as motorhome drivers. We stood in the middle of a magnificent villa with a swimming pool, outdoor kitchen and all the necessary facilities for our supplies. We were given a bathroom with separate access for ourselves, with a huge shower, toilet, washing machine and dryer. When the man then asked us if he should bring us coffee, we were completely speechless.

In the morning we said goodbye as if we had been best friends for years. I don't think it would have taken much and I would have had to shed a tear or two. Icke and I asked ourselves why Isabelle and Francis, who live near Bordeaux in the summer and in El Chaparral in the winter, would offer this parking space. We're sure they don't have to do it for the money. I think they do it because they like getting to know people and even more, they just like being nice and helpful. Yes, it's almost unbelievable, but these people still exist. And meeting her gives you one of those moments that are at home outside of time.
