Today was not as easy for us as the previous days, but still quite beautiful.
Taking down the tent and loading the car went smoothly, and the plan was to make a short stop at Parc national des Calanques and a longer one in Marseille before arriving at our campsite in Camargue in the evening.
The road that led us through the national park was a highlight, it wound its way up and down the rugged mountains and along the turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea. However, the first disappointment hit us when we wanted to hike into the national park... not only would the round trip have taken us 4 hours, but the temperatures were too high for such a hike with children. Since it was Saturday, there were many other hikers on site. Rangers were ready and asked each hiker to carry at least 2 liters of water. We gave up and tried to find a nice spot by car. Cassis seemed like the right choice, but the beautiful little town was completely overcrowded. No parking spaces, only traffic jams.... So let's just continue to Marseille.....
Here, the next problem awaited us... the traffic in Marseille. After being used to Paris, we didn't worry about the traffic, but we saw two accidents before we even found a parking spot.
Speaking of parking... there were many parking garages, but we couldn't fit into any of them with the roof box.
By sheer luck, we managed to find a parking spot. In order to experience as much of Marseille and its rough charm as possible, we booked a bus tour and were a bit sad in the end that we couldn't explore this impressive city for longer.
For dinner, we had fast food this time 😅.
