After a long break, all photos and news are now coming at once. We are currently in Wellington, waiting for Caro (Dirk's best friend) to arrive so we can travel the North Island and Australia together. We have now left Napier and had a pretty cool time there. Even though the city became quite boring without a car, we made the most of it.
Due to visa issues, Dirk couldn't start at the meat factory and spent the first month doing odd jobs to get by until he ended up on an apple and cherry orchard. Dirk can now call himself a beekeeper, cherry picker, dishwasher, painter, gardener, and apple thinner. He had fun while I had to work hard here. Dirk could relax in the evenings with his group on the beach or have a few beers and improve his English. With some people, we hope to keep in touch.
Unfortunately, my job at the meat factory was on the night shift, so I didn't get to experience much of hostel life since the shift went until midnight. But I had really cool colleagues and a job that I really enjoyed. I had to cut the fat from the cow's hips, and on one evening, I had about 400 to 500 pieces of meat in my hand. The job paid really well.
We haven't traveled in the last two months, so we're really itching to do so. ;)
We celebrated Christmas at the hostel with everyone. Two English girls cooked and served various national dishes. It was a great time, even though I was down with a bad flu.
We made up for the celebration on New Year's Eve in Wellington.
