When we set off in the morning, we weren't sure how far we wanted to drive. The only thing that was certain was that we had to be in Boston on Thursday and wanted to visit Cape Cod before that. Distance about 1,000 kilometers.
So we headed towards Cape Cod and booked a room on the way. It was pure coincidence. I just looked for good deals on Expedia and found a great hotel in Schenectady (a place I had never heard of until today) at a great price.
We stayed at "the Landing Hotel", right by the river.
Like I said, a very nice hotel. Attached to a casino. Okay, the people walking around there are sometimes special and already coming out of the gaming room in the morning before breakfast. But oh well. Everyone has their own way.
In any case, after 9 days of not sleeping very well, we slept in a perfect boxspring bed again.
On the way there, we discovered "Wolff's Biergarten" in the town, which is actually worth seeing. Because the place looked really good, we went there in the evening and lo and behold, there was German draft beer in all variations. Wonderful! The first ice-cold, draught Pilsner in almost three weeks almost put us in a state of euphoria. Wonderful! The guy behind the counter was also really nice and when I told him during the second order that we were from Germany, he started speaking a little bit of German with me and told me that he was originally from Leipzig and had moved to the USA with his parents many years ago. Then he insisted on buying me the second beer. So sweet!
There were baskets of free peanuts in their shells on the tables. When eating the nuts, you can simply throw the shells on the floor. It looks funny. The whole place has a proper carpet of nut shells in some places.
So...a real lucky find to get to know this beautiful place.
