Milan - Cathedral, Opera, San Siro, mosquito bites, saying goodbye and much more

Pubblicato: 18.09.2023

So, I finally arrived in Italy 🇮🇹...

We drove from Nice towards Milan but first made a detour to Albenga. Sabrina wanted to go to the sea for two more days! That was okay for me! It wasn't that easy to find a campsite, we called probably 10 people and kept getting rejections! But there were still places available in Albenga. We had barely crossed the border and the weather was completely different. Cloudy and just over 20 degrees.

There isn't much to report! The beach was right on the doorstep but the weather was average. On the second day there was even a ban on swimming. We took a quick look at the city and I had my first ice cream in Italy.

Thursday morning we set off for Milan. We were there almost 3 hours later and booked a stadium tour of the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium for the afternoon. Here Inter Milan and AC Milan play in the same stadium. That was pretty cool. Of course there were no more tickets for the derby on Saturday, which was a shame.

The next day we headed to the cathedral. The Milan Cathedral looks great. We then walked around the city a bit and looked and shopped a bit here and there. There is no shortage of fashion stores in Milan.

This will probably always remain in my memory. When you think you've ordered spaghetti carbonara and you get something completely different - spaghetti with tomato sauce (because you didn't have your glasses on, that's probably what happens to me now).

We headed straight to the campsite because we were really tired! The night before it was raining heavily and thundering and we didn't get to sleep until 4 a.m. I was already asleep around 9 p.m.

The next day we were well rested and ready to go sightseeing again. Sabrina had always told me the days before “I only speak Swiss German on Saturdays”. Okay, I thought to myself, I probably won't understand much (I don't even understand Swabian) and there will be a lot to laugh about. She actually tried to talk like that all morning, I often looked like a car and didn't understand anything. It was exhausting trying to concentrate the whole time... Thank God she spoke to me in standard German again from midday onwards. It also became too exhausting for her to continue translating everything for me🤣. By the way, the hottest and funniest word is kitchen cupboard “Chuchichästli” I threw myself away laughing every time😂😂😂😂.

In a good mood we set off into the city around midday. The first destination for us was the opera. But it took 4 hours to get there. First of all Sabrina was in a shopping frenzy (everyone who knows me knows how much I DON'T like that) we were in a store for probably an hour!!! For comparison, the day before when I bought my new shoes everything took about 10 minutes! No matter, she tried on what felt like 100 things and I patiently played the advisor.

At some point I went to the Chillout Arena and waited for them (there were only men and I sitting there 🤣) Afterwards we let ourselves drift around and discovered some really beautiful buildings until, after hours, we found the Scala. Unfortunately the opera was fully booked until mid-October otherwise we might have spontaneously watched something in the evening. From there we went to a bar at the cathedral to have a view of the square from above, which was super cool. Okay, the gin and tonic cost 15€ but it had a great look. From there we thought about whether we should go to the district that is also called little Venice. So get on the subway and the bus. As soon as we arrived, the sky became darker and darker. Ate something briefly, something fried with rice, cheese and ham. It was definitely delicious. And then it started to rain, no, pour. We tried to get a seat in the bar, which wasn't so easy. Finally found a place, ordered drinks and Sabrina didn't like her drink, so we swapped because I now eat and drink everything (even olives) (because I can't smell anything and sometimes I can't taste anything anymore). At some point we set off to the campsite in light rain. We hadn't taken into account that the derby had long since ended and the bus was driving past the stadium. I think we were on the road for 1.5 hours instead of 40 minutes.

The next morning it was time to say goodbye (I don't like goodbyes and it was my third one on this trip). Sabrina set off towards Basel and I headed towards Venice, more precisely to Cavallino.

Thank you Sabrina for the time we spent together. And thank you for talking to me on the beach in the south of France, I would NEVER have done that! We had a lot of fun but we were also able to talk about serious things. Sorry that I just don't understand Swiss German.

I'm sure we'll see each other again in Hamburg or Basel.

While I was writing this report outside in front of the motorhome, I probably got 5 new stitches. This is really very annoying here and also in Milan. I've already counted over 20 on my left leg
