DAY 11 BONAIRE

An island located off the coast of Venezuela, with a length of 39 km and a width of 11 km, Bonaire is rather small and dry. Today, our goal is to explore this island with a population of 18,000, 10,000 flamingos, and numerous free-roaming donkeys, along with its stunning underwater world, using a scooter! And with snorkeling gear and fins.....

Plan: We will cruise around the island on a motor scooter!

After having a good breakfast, we walked to the new waterfront promenade to the 'Scooter Bonaire' motorcycle rental station and rode a 125cc scooter to the 1000-Step Beach! It was not really a beach, but a popular snorkeling and diving spot....and there were not 1000 steps, only 70! Many fish were swimming around and towards the end, we were able to watch a sea turtle laying eggs! We continued along the coastal road to Goto Lake, where we saw some flamingos from a distance! As we drove back to the southern half of the island, we saw several free-roaming donkeys and the typical cactus fences of the island, as well as some flamingos up close! Dany followed the example of her mother-in-law and ignored all the signs to take a good photo up close! We then stopped briefly at Sorobon Beach to recharge and took a walk in the extremely turquoise water - swimming was not really possible because the water was too shallow! We passed by the huge salt pans (known as salt flats, ranging in color from white to purple depending on the type of algae), where we saw numerous flamingos from a distance, and then returned to the old slave quarters before returning the scooter! Enough sun, enough sightseeing - now it's time to relax on the ship and get into the whirlpool on Deck 18 with a view! Tonight, we will have dinner again at the French Kiss Restaurant because the beef fillet was so good......it was delicious once again!! Afterwards, we will go to the live band on the pool deck and then to the Malle Evening at the brewery! And tomorrow, it's relaxation time with a sea day!
