Got up as planned at 6 o'clock. Quick wash, said goodbye to Elena (it was a pleasure meeting you) and hit the road to wave down a taxi 🚕. Unfortunately, the ride to the airport didn't go as planned. The buffer of time melted away. Unexpected heavy traffic, then the conductor of the colectivos (shared taxis) incorrectly arranged the cars. If it were up to my system, we would have left 10 minutes earlier. Then there was an accident and resulting traffic jam, losing another 15 minutes. Long story short: Boarding at 7:50 am, arrival at the airport at 7:57 am ... and still no security check, no idea which gate we need to go to, let alone have a cup of coffee. But fortunately, my prophecy from yesterday came true ... delayed boarding and even got a (very good) coffee 🍀
We went directly to Palomino by bus without stopping in Santa Marta. The bus: top-notch technology - Recaro seats, air conditioning, 3-course menu and CSI Caribbean in Dolby Surround 🤣
In Palomino, we spent a few hours at the beach and finally got to jump into the sea. It's very hot here and the humidity is 100 percent. So, you stick to yourself all day 😓 And unfortunately, the sea doesn't offer any cooling off - okay, I'm complaining at a high level.
It's very beautiful here, although there are quite a few backpackers of the kind "Sure, I wear swimwear from Jack Wolfskin!" 🤣 ... and yoga on the beach and vegan relaxation and all that ... so I can't relate to those types. In contrast to them, we'll have fish for dinner and we'll even take a shower 🚿.
In the evening, we made a little over 2 hours' journey. We are on our way to the northernmost point of South America. We used the Colombian BlaBlaCar. Some private driver who takes people - including locals - from A to B. We negotiated hard, but probably still paid twice as much as the "local rate," which is still cheap.
Now we're in Riohacha in a very good hostel and sweating 😅 here.
The further north we go, the more difficult it becomes to have stable internet connections. So it might happen that there won't be a report tomorrow - just check, but it'll be made up for in any case.
I'm glad that many of you enjoy our little reports. Thanks for the nice feedback.
