On 27.12.18 my mom brought me back to Frankfurt am Main airport. There I had one last German pretzel and then went to the gate to fly to Lisbon. My flight was 1.5 hours delayed, so I missed my connecting flight to São Paulo. At the same time, my friend Judith drove to Luxembourg by car, as her flight to Madrid was from there.
When I arrived in Lisbon, everything was a bit chaotic as several people missed their connecting flights. Eventually, I was taken out of the line and handed a new ticket to São Paulo, along with a 6€ voucher for a snack. While waiting for my flight for 7 hours, Judith had to wait for 10 hours in Madrid, as her flight was also delayed.
When I finally arrived in São Paulo the next morning, I decided to wait for another 3 hours so that Judith and I could go to the hostel together. While waiting, I unfortunately found out that all buses for the next few days were fully booked, so our travel plan had to be changed.
In the afternoon, we booked a cheap flight for 31.12. to Foz do Iguaçu. We were a bit annoyed because we originally only wanted to stay one night in São Paulo.
Nevertheless, we tried to make the best of it. We walked along Avenida Paulista and in the evening we drank our first Caipirinha. The next day, we took an Uber to the bus station to buy a ticket to Bertioga. In the afternoon, we ate beans, some kind of porridge with shrimp at a flea market.
The following day, we went to Bertioga for a day at the beach. Unfortunately, on the way there we spent over 6 hours on the bus instead of the expected 2 hours. Despite that, it was a beautiful day as only locals were at this beach and we could experience a bit of the Brazilian flair there.
On 31.12.2018, we flew to Foz do Iguaçu. We almost missed the flight as we were running late and the Uber took quite a long time to arrive.
