09.04. On the way to the Marlborough wine region

The journey was about 150 km in initially bad weather and cold (11 degrees). From Kaikoura heading north, we always follow the coastal highway. Here, entire sections of roads must have disappeared due to rock and mudslides after the earthquake in 2016.

We were early and wanted to enjoy the scenery. So we took a detour from Picton to Marlborough Sounds via a gravel road.

Our accommodation for the next two days is a small cottage at 'St Leonard Vineyard Cottages' in the middle of a huge vineyard in Blenheim.

Before devoting ourselves to local wine tomorrow, we also visited the 'Moa Brewery' today, which is amusingly also located in the middle of the vineyard...
