Once again a lot of driving (about 260 km). From Te Anau to Hawea Lake near Wanaka. So northwards and back to the Southern Alps, but from the other side.
The driving route was consistently scenic, many things reminiscent of various alpine landscapes. We passed Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown (looks like a larger ski resort in Switzerland with a lake), Arrowtown (too crowded with tourists), over the pass on Crown Range Road to Wanaka (like Queenstown in small) to Lake Hawea.
Here we treat ourselves to two days at the luxurious 'Silverpine Lodge', secluded with fantastic views of the lake. And the food is supposed to be just as good...
