After a really good breakfast in the youth hostel in Almograve, we set off at 9:30 today and only arrived at our hotel, which was far too posh for our needs, at 8 p.m. There are, of course, special reasons for all of this.
The first stretch of the route was once again beautiful, always above the cliffs along the coastline, but this time through fine sandy dunes - I was reminded of Morocco. The bright blue sky and the temperatures rising to 25 degrees also contributed to this memory. But completely unlike in the Sahara, here the Atlantic was always roaring to my right and on both sides a splendor of flowers delighted the eye. The many stork nests, clattering and flying storks here are also a really special natural spectacle that you stop for lots of photos.
After the refreshing ice-cold Coke in Cavaleiro, we continued on paths that were soon no longer quite so attractive and the last few kilometers to Zambujeira were actually along a road. Doris' toes were now bloodshot, and my mood and energy were no longer quite so high. Only after a refreshingly cool foot bath in the beautiful bay of Zambujeira did my mood improve again. In town, Doris got new sandals and I had a cold beer in a nice Italian group.
After we finally found a small restaurant serving fish dishes, the world was back to normal. And we treated ourselves to a taxi for the 2.5 kilometers to our elegant hotel jwd. Here the crickets chirp and the frogs croak, and tomorrow morning we might be able to jump into the pool before breakfast.
