A turtle hospital, Paris, and 12 hours of time difference

Pubblicato: 22.08.2020

I haven't contacted you for a while, so now I will inform you about everything that has happened from the last blog post until today...

We continued traveling around the island of La Réunion. There weren't many adventures left. The most exciting thing was probably a turtle hospital that we visited. The turtles are caught (accidentally) in the sea. The nets injure them and then they are taken to the hospital where they are operated on and cared for. After a full recovery, they return to the sea.
Oh yes, we visited the botanical garden on the recommendation of a friend. We saw many tropical plants and very beautiful geckos. The owner said that there was a small chance of seeing chameleons. When we had already given up hope, we finally spotted two: a female and a male 😊

On August 16, we flew back to Paris overnight. We had to take a (once again) coronavirus test ☹
But we also wanted to see the typical attractions: we stood at the Place de la Concorde, saw the Eiffel Tower, took nice photos in front of the Sacré Coeur de Montmartre, rode the Champs Elysées with e-scooters, saw the Arc de Triomphe, and passed by the Louvre. We couldn't even go inside because there was a suitcase on the square that belonged to no one, and there was suspicion that the suitcase contained a bomb...
And just like that, the three days were over, and we continued flying. Our destination: Tahiti. The flight lasted 10 hours until we made a stopover in Vancouver. Then, another 10-hour flight took us to Tahiti. The time difference is 12 hours. That means if you were to dig a hole now from Switzerland, you would come out on the same longitude where we are now.
For the first three days, we are in Papeete, the capital of Tahiti.
Our hotel has two pools: one with chlorinated water and one with seawater. There are also injured corals in the seawater pool that are being healed there, and there are also free-swimming fish. You are not allowed to approach the corals and fish, but the fish are allowed to come to us. Instead of the sun loungers being on a stone slab, they are in the sand. I really like it here, but we are only here for three days before we continue traveling. Where to? To the Marquesas. And the adventure continues...
