Tag 77: Colonia del Sacramento

Pubblicato: 02.04.2017

We left early yesterday morning to go to Montevideo. At 5 o'clock in the morning, we sneaked out of the hostel in the dark and walked for half an hour to the bus stop. Of course, we were accompanied by Sol, whom we unfortunately had to say goodbye to and leave alone on the bus. After a 5-hour bus ride, we arrived in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. We took an Uber taxi from the terminal to our Airbnb apartment and did some laundry. Apart from an afternoon walk through the city to the sea and a pizza in a small restaurant, we didn't do anything in the beautiful but unremarkable city.

This morning, we took the bus to Colonia del Sacramento, where we arrived almost a week ago. This time, however, to see the oldest city in Uruguay. The old town has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and when you are there, you know why. It is very colorful, clean, with lots of flowers, restaurants, small bars, stands where artists sell their jewelry, a beautiful view of the sea, a lighthouse, and much more. It is very quiet and relaxed.

At 4 o'clock, we took the ferry back to Buenos Aires and back to Gastón. We had a really good burger one more time and then Gastón took us to a very nice and funny evening. With two of his friends, we went to a small party on the first floor of an old building, drank and danced to 'traditional' music. Then we entered a different world. From the outside, it looked like a big old house in a city as it usually does. But on the first floor, we found a huge room with high ceilings, a bar, tables, lots of decorations and pictures on the walls, a large dance floor, and two musicians. Here, we were told, Tango was born. The lighting is very dim, the music beautiful, and in the middle, some couples are dancing more or less good Tango while in the dark, many people sit around, eat, drink, and watch the whole spectacle.

You could say we had a very successful and beautiful day!
