30/06/2019 - Port Moresby / Papua New Guinea

Pubblicato: 07.07.2019

12.15 In the afternoon, our small propeller plane took off from Cairns towards the capital of Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby. The city has over 360,000 inhabitants. In 1971, there were only 80,000. The population has rapidly increased in a short period of time, resulting in a high crime rate. There are not many attractions here, so we had already decided to make only a short detour. Originally, we had booked an apartment for our overnight stay. However, 3 days before our arrival, it was suddenly given to a long-term tenant. Initially, this was not good news for us, but it turned out to be our luck. We found a private accommodation on Airbnb with Carolyn and her husband Robert. Carolyn picked us up from the airport and in just 15 minutes, we arrived at their large, security-guarded house. The couple has 6 children who go to school in Australia. Therefore, the children's rooms are empty and they have recently started renting them out. We were their first guests and Carolyn was a bit excited. We had dinner together with them and they told us a lot about themselves and life in Papua New Guinea. They are a very nice family and we were glad to have found a beautiful and very clean place to sleep here. We will come back.
