Sunday, 26 August 2018 – Day 1
This time the holiday is completely different. No written notes (but thanks to Google and a little memory, everything can still be reconstructed) and only Lisa and I are travelling together. We are heading to England/Great Britain in time before Brexit and, as requested, by plane, making it Lisa's first flight.
So off we go by car to Vienna, to the P4 car park, and stroll around the airport a bit and visit Starbucks. VIE-LHR boarding time 09:45 – let's go!
The flight was problem-free in good weather and we arrived on time in the rain at London Heathrow Terminal 2 - The Queen's Terminal. Then we took the subway into the city, or rather towards Docklands, and then a very adventurous bus ride through rather run-down, dilapidated areas... what did I book?
We can really recommend the ibis London Excel-Docklands , it's very nice, casual and modern, and very quiet. The connection to the city via the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) is also very good, you don't have to travel around by bus like we newcomers did. Starbucks is also right on the way, Lisa is happy.
So we took the DLR into the city to the London Dungeon and the chamber of horrors, very informative and cool, although the slang is sometimes difficult to understand. We walked along the Thames in the drizzle, looked for Big Ben and then went to the " Black & Blue Waterloo " for dinner. We took our new favorite train, the DLR, home at 9 a.m., a great start to our trip to London, we liked it here.
