After finally finding a shower in Twizel, where we paid $1 per minute for hot water, so a total of $3💪, we headed to the Hooker Valley Track, a relatively easy 3-hour track from which you can see Mount Cook.
It went over 3 suspension bridges and passed Mueller Lake to a glacier, where even a few icebergs could be seen😍
The next day, we wanted to hike to the Mueller Hut with overnight stay at the same spot, but this turned out to be not so easy.
It started with about 1800 stairs uphill, which is not easy when you also plan to sleep there, as of course sleeping bag and food must not be missing. Totally sweaty and exhausted, we arrived at the half (small lookout point) and then the deep snow started.❄️⛄
We tried to fight our way further up, but it was clearly too slippery and too deep, so we decided to abandon the idea and hike back down (which was clearly the better idea, as it was supposed to be -6 degrees at night, then we would have skidded down the track.)
