Away from Arthur's Pass and towards the West Coast.
Punakaiki is a small village that doesn't even have a small shop...
But it has plenty of other gems.
When we arrived, we first made ourselves something to eat. The nice lady at the reception suggested that we go on the Truman Track around 6 p.m. This leads to a bay that is most beautiful at this time of day due to the sunset and provides the most impressive impressions, and is also accessible during low tide.
It was beautiful. Our pictures speak more than a thousand words.
The next day after breakfast, we drove to the Pancake Rocks and looked at them. The special thing about them is that the rocks are layered like many stack of stone pancakes on top of each other. During high tide and when high waves crash against the rock walls, it sprays out through openings (cavities) in the rocks or only comes out as 'steam' from the openings.
In the afternoon, we went into a rainforest and did the Pororari River Track. We felt like we were in a jungle.
Those were very impressive days :)
