There is no doubt that Beaune is considered the wine capital of Burgundy - although in Dijon you may see things a little differently. Beaune is worth a visit just for that reason. We were there twice, once to see the town, including the traditional winemaking museum in the old town. And to find out that the campsite in Beaune doesn't offer any more comfort than the one in Santenay, and that we like camping in Santenay much better (larger pitches, better located for excursions).
We came to Beaune a second time to visit the Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne ( citeclimatsvins-bourgogne.com ). A hyper-modern exhibition in a newly built building on the outskirts of Beaune. It only opened two months ago, so everything is brand new. What we found most exciting were the glasses that you could stick your nose into to find out the different flavors. The view from the roof terrace is also great, especially when the clouds are piling up in the sky.
