The narrow Canal du Center winds 112 km along a picturesque route between the Saône and the Loire, connecting Digoin with Chalon-sur-Saône via Montceau-les-Mines and the Côte de Beaune. He is also part of EuroVélo 6.
The Canal du Center was built in the late 18th century, contributed a lot to the economic development of the region, and today is largely used for slower tourism. It runs through the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise and the Côte de Beaune, among the green pastures of the Charolais dedicated to cattle breeding.
Cycling along here is pure pleasure and relaxation. Getting started from Santenay isn't necessarily self-explanatory, but it's quite easy. The short stretch between Remigny and Chagny is exciting, where you can look down on the picturesque groups of houses from the canal and a little later cross the railway line. Chagny itself is a lovely little town with an almost southern French flair.
