Washington D.C. - The capital of America

Birt: 07.06.2018

The train journey to Washington went smoothly again. In general, it can be said that train travel in America is very pleasant. We always had seats next to each other on all three journeys and were able to store our luggage very well. In addition, there is free internet during the journey, so the travel time usually flies by. We arrived in Washington D.C. around noon and moved into our new AirBnB apartment. Actually, we wanted to take it easy today. But since we had a lot of time, we just started walking. I had read on the internet that there is a relatively cool and hip neighborhood nearby, so we checked it out. Unbeknownst to us, we also indirectly made our way towards the White House. Washington D.C. feels like a small town compared to New York or Chicago. There are no skyscrapers and the public transportation system is very straightforward. So we suddenly found ourselves in front of the White House. After walking around it once, we went back home and cooked something for dinner. Today we started our tour at the main train station. From there, we walked to the Capitol. The Capitol is the seat of the Congress, the legislative body of the United States of America. Then we walked along the National Mall to the Washington Monument. On the way there, we took a break at the National History Museum due to the heat. The good thing is that many museums in Washington are free, so this was a very nice and informative detour. Arriving at the Washington Memorial, you could already see the Lincoln Memorial in the distance, which was the end of our walk today. One more photo with Lincoln and then we started our way home. Tomorrow we will fly to Miami, where we have arranged a rental car for the next two weeks. Afterwards, we want to start a small tour of Florida. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly with picking up the rental car this time.
