We spent a week in Dubrovnik with Miriam's mother Heidi. We were very lucky with the weather and could enjoy the late summer. Jakob went swimming in the sea every day and when the weather was warm enough, Miriam and Heidi did too. In the morning, we had breakfast together at Heidi's hotel and in the evening we cooked together in our apartment. Since the 2nd season, Dubrovnik has been the filming location for King's Landing in Game of Thrones and during our week, a scene was even filmed for a new season and we happened to walk past the props, but unfortunately we couldn't witness the shooting itself. We enjoyed the Mediterranean flair here on the Adriatic coast and went on some great hikes that surprised us because they were particularly varied. The vegetation constantly changed and there were many different types of trees and plants to discover, as well as the view of the coast and the sea, and the high mountain ranges all around. Once we hiked along the Konavle coast and Jakob jumped into the water at a remote rocky beach. We missed the bus in the evening and had to hitchhike back a bit, which was a test of patience for Heidi. We celebrated Heidi's birthday together with breakfast, swimming, strolling, a self-made flower crown, and in the evening, we cooked for her.
Dubrovnik has a great old town. It is surrounded by a mighty fortress wall, we visited the filming locations of Game of Thrones and constantly climbed through small alleyways and stairs. We saw a lot of Dubrovnik and the surrounding area and were able to explore the city without the masses of tourists. Instead, there were masses of tangerines. We bought a large bag of tangerines from a woman by the roadside and carried it with us on a whole hike, so that our nice landlady could give us another bowl of tangerines in the evening, as well as the following evenings. In addition to tangerines, there were also many street cats and house cats, much to Miriam's delight.
We had a vacation from our vacation with Heidi: long, extensive breakfast buffets, nice beach stays, and we enjoyed the 20-degree warm water and her company. It was very nice days in Dubrovnik that we experienced together and we were able to recharge our batteries. Now it's not so easy for us to get back into our travel routine and we are curious about the next few days, as the weather is supposed to get worse. Today we are heading to Montenegro, at least we hope so, because we want to hitchhike there, hopefully that works out.
