Yesterday I boarded the Amtrak train to Oakland at the King Street Station in Seattle. It was a new experience for me. I never traveled 23 hours in a train before.
I've got a coach seat in the upper part of the train. The seats are okay and you have plenty room for your legs. But I didn't see much of my seat.... I spent the most of the time in de panoramic wagon.
From Seattle to Portland were two guys from the National Park Service on board and explained almost everything we saw. That was really great.
In Portland they left the train. So what to do for the next couple of hours? No wifi (only in the sleep wagon), phone coverage really bad... Luckily I met some great people. We had a lot of fun and the time passed by really quick. (sorry for the smartphone pics)
The view and the landscape was awesome! The pictures are taken somewhere in Oregon....
I've got some sleep, but it wasn't very comfortable... I woke up, when the train stopped in Sacramento CA. My final destination wasn't that far anymore.
I can really recommend that trip. You have a great view, the train is clean and you can meet a lot of people. BUT! Bring your own food and beverages (except alcoholic ones) with you! Food and drinks are really expensive in the train and you have to be lucky to get a time for lunch/dinner in the restaurant.
