Ladys, Flower and Bird Market

Tshaj tawm: 02.11.2018

Today is All-you-can-Market day. Unfortunately, there is not enough time for a big trip, so I want to at least visit the recommended markets in Mong Kok. The subway is crowded again.

When I get out of the subway, I find myself on a skywalk that serves as a pedestrian path over many heavily trafficked roads.

I'm completely surprised to see plastic sheets spread out everywhere on the ground, with masses of chattering women sitting together for a picnic. Is this the Hong Kong reality alternative to Facebook and Instagram? Incredible!

The Ladys Market is quickly found, but it turns out to be a disappointment since the same tourist souvenir stands can be found here that were already on the Night Market of the Temple Street, plus food.

I don't see what is particularly "lady" about this, except that we women tend to buy unnecessary kitsch and junk, but that applies to any market. Hehe! The only good thing about the Ladys Market is that I can take pictures of it from above. I like that!

The Flower Market turns out to be an even bigger flop; three lonely shops with all kinds of flowers and plants. So I imagine something completely different under a market. With the help of the app maps.me, I also find my way to the Bird Market, which is somewhat hidden. Integrated into arcades are about 3 to 4 shops with bird cages, although most of them are empty and only a few have birds in them, chirping angrily. That doesn't even make a pretty photo subject. I'm about to turn around disappointed when I perceive movement from the corner of my eye. Uuuuuaaaah! Crawling, creeping, and winding everywhere. Millions of worms, beetles, grasshoppers, and all sorts of other bird treats frolic in the trays and bags. Of course, I have to capture it as best I can with my camera.

I'm heading back. The best thing about this trip are definitely the photos from above. Taking photos from this perspective is just fun!

In the evening, as always, I meet up with Armelle in our room. We sit on our beds, tell each other what we have experienced, research, sort photos, chat about God and the world, handle financial matters, sort our photos, etc. It's nice. Today it's my turn to get the snacks and beer that are urgently needed for that. We try a different brand every night. The decisive selection criterion is, of course, a pretty and unique design of the can🤪. Haha! My choice meets with Armelle's approval, but the contents are less appreciated. No matter, we force down the cold barley brew.

And of course, like every evening, it gets very late. Wǎn'ān!
