Langkawi

Tshaj tawm: 26.10.2023

On October 15th We continued on to Langkawi. We got there pretty quickly via domestic flight.

After the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur, we were looking forward to some island vibes🏝️ and booked a hotel on a small island near Langkawi. Rebeka Island is just 10 minutes by boat from Langkawi and boats leave almost every hour.

On Rebeka there is only one hotel and one port… nothing more!😍 We had the beach and pool almost just to ourselves.

And falling asleep with the sound of waves🌊… wonderful!

View from our balcony

The next day we went on a mangrove tour with Peter Höffinger. In many places, Langkawi is still densely surrounded and overgrown by mangroves and rainforests, where there are a lot of animals and plants to discover. Peter is a German who emigrated 25 years ago and is passionate about what he does🔥

... namely to make people aware of the uniqueness of the mangroves. He talks with dedication and answers every question. How do mangroves turn salt water into fresh water, how do they grow and spread and why do they protect against tsunamis so well, etc.

Above all, you realize how important mangroves are to the ecosystem, just like the rainforest. And what do we humans do? Sawing off the branch we are sitting on!🤯

Peter shows and explains so clearly that the time (planned tour of 4 hours) flies by in an instant. In the boat🛶 he intentionally sits with his back to the direction of travel so that he can react to us and the eagle eyes🦅 are provided by the boatman Sam. He also promptly discovered a wild crocodile🐊 in the mangrove thicket. Unfortunately, just a month ago a crocodile was shot and killed for no good reason.😢

At the end, when Peter explains how mangroves reproduce, he also has a few sprouts with him that we can plant straight away. By the way, mangroves are the biggest CO2 destroyers.🥰

Of course we saved the coordinates of our mangrove sprout. But of course, in case we forgot, Peter had a reminder sheet with him.😊

So impressive!

The next few days we enjoyed the island(s) and their beaches despite the rainy season.☔️ Luckily it never rains for long periods of time, just 1-2 hours a day, but then it rains more heavily. But you can also enjoy that in the pool.😂

Because the pool and sea were bathtubs🛁 warm.

On one of the days we even saw a fire show on the main beach☄️, which the kids of course found very exciting and exciting.

Otherwise, we were completely infected by the island vibe. Being on the beach, dancing in the sand💃, watching fantastic sunsets🌅 and just having a good time. Mmhm!❤️

The time went by so quickly.

On October 21st We then went back to Kuala Lumpur to travel on to Hanoi the next day.🧳
