40 churches in 10 days

प्रकाशित: 06.10.2020

A travel blog? Now? Don't we have other concerns? Yes, we do, and plenty of them. In normal times, Roby and I like to travel as much as possible - but I have only written a blog about a trip once, because it was special to me: "my" world tour. Now, traveling has suddenly become something extraordinary again. Like many others, we have canceled all trips abroad, or they have been canceled for us. Plans that were barely made quickly fell through. In the summer, no vacation at all because of work - but now we made it: We are doing a tour that we actually wanted to do in old age.

We are going to Trentino. South Tyrol is the Italian sibling of the Austrian Tyrol, and Trentino is even more Italian, so to speak. That may sound a bit boring, right? But it's not. Because we have planned a little adventure: 40 village churches in 10 days, where the Baschenis artist family has left their frescoes. In addition, there are high mountains, Lake Garda, lovely Italian provincial towns (Trento, Rovereto), great red wines, the best bollicine in Italy, and really good food, including dumplings (canederli) and lots of slow food.

I know that others have just as much wanderlust as I do - or at least want to get away for a few days to escape from anxiety and uncertainty. Maybe you feel like joining us and reading whether all the priests and volunteers that Roby has been waking up from their low-season sleep and trying to awaken from the Corona inertia over the past 14 days, are really opening the churches for us. It seems that no one has done a tour of the Baschenis yet, that's what the reaction of the people of Trentino suggests. We're starting tomorrow.

Postscript: We didn't fly to Crete to avoid the stupid outdoor mask requirement, and now it's threatening us in Italy.
